Non-slip base acts like a coaster, it increases stability particularly on uneven surfaces, and it reduces rattling during transport.
The Non-slip base is bonded so it cannot come off or collect debris.
The raised edges of the plates helps to keep food on and makes the plate easy to hold.
Microwave safe for re-heating - we suggest maximum bursts of 30 seconds for oily food and 60 seconds for non-oily food, stirring between bursts to avoid hot spots. (Melamine is not microwave safe as its porous surface can absorb water, which turns to steam during microwaving, potentially causing the plate to crack or explode. Microwaving also causes formaldehyde to be released and to be absorbed by the food, and hence be digested)

Care

Scratch resistant - avoid the use of sharp knives and steel scourers.
Stain resistant - avoid strong food additives like turmeric. If stained, successive dishwashing will generally gradually remove the stain.
Peel-off labels before washing. Use organic solvents to remove any excess glue.
Do not scour to clean.
Dishwashing gives the best result

FOOD SAFETY

BASF Ultradur is FDA approved without qualification - it is BPA free. Melamine has only qualified US FDA approval and is subject to safe ingestion limits.
Melamine releases formaldehyde when heated which can cause build-up in the kidneys.
The US FDA recommends that Melamine should not be used for hot food and drink.
Melamine should be labelled as not being microwave safe
Melamine is often coloured – pigments containing heavy metals are cheapest and are difficult to detect.

Melamine and Bamboo – declared especially dangerous for young children

Research from the Dutch Food Safety Authorities (NVWA) and the Bureau for Risk Assessment (BuRO) concludes that dishes created with bamboo and melamine pose a health risk. The government announced the import and sale of products containing these ingredients has been forbidden in the Netherlands.

The combination of the two substances can cause stomach pain and irritation. According to the NVWA, this is due to high levels of formaldehyde found in the mix of bamboo and melamine.

The chemical is especially dangerous for young children due to their low body weight. Especially when serving hot food or beverages. The NWVA warned not to use melamine products for toddlers.
